New project with 'the Wick Award' called Exchanges.

Exchange Projects, is a group of local artists working together to explore Hackney Wick. We have been invited by the Wick Award to host a series of events/workshops in schools and with the wider school community to collect and document ideas about transformations in Hackney Wick.

The outcomes of our project will input in to the Wick Award, which has been asked by the Big Lottery to collect information from the local community about the potential projects that could be developed with the grant of £1,000,000 pounds being given to Hackney Wick Ward over the next 10 years for community  improvements.

We plan to work with Local schools and their extended communities;
We plan to host ‘Exchanges’ in the following schools; Gainsborough Primary School, St Dominics RC Primary School, Wentworth Nursery.

exchange projects have been resident artists in the Wick since July on the other side of Queens Yard.

Now see exchange projects take over The Yard theatre. Throughout the week they will work on site to build new structures, elaborate existing processes within the space (bar, kitchen, rehearsals) and invite people they’ve met throughout their residency in the Wick. Creating an illusory set where the constructs disappear to reveal a host of theatrical areas.

Collaborations, exchanges, new art and new spaces.

Through out the weekend Exchange Project space will provide an opportunity for you to get involved with artistic exchange.

The space will host a range of participatory events to include; construction workshops, collaborative performance, tea debates, a community gallery, bartering space, and an afternoon of performances. The community gallery will show case the work generated with the local community since June featuring the work of community members alongside the resident artists.

Symposium - Ordinary Language
Sunday 11th September starting at 12pm
 

The 2nd Landscape symposium will explore the effect and role of Language in art practices. How does language effect our understanding and the social value given to contemporary art?

The symposium will consist of a series of performative actions that explore language in general life and within some specific art practices, including Oriana Fox's performance and video. There will also be a talk on rhetoric in contemporary performance art from artist writer David Howells.

Talk - How to survive after ( or instead of ) art school

A really successful talk led by Rosalind Davis. A wide range of creative practitioners attended including; a jewellery maker, documentary film maker, art teacher, illustrator, performance artist and a new graduate. All who attended the talk ( 15 in total ) stayed for a cuppa afterwards and had really positive conversations about what had been discussed and what they are planning to do in the future.

Worked all day with my Dad to clear the space. loads of junk and rubbish to clear but think the space looks good now.

Needs another lick of paint, tables and chairs and it will be ready to open.
